Chile’s public procurement agency, ChileCompra, created its “ Public Contracting Observatory ” service in 2012 to detect, prevent, and fix irregularities in government contracting procedures. But an amendment to the procurement law in December 2023 has paved the way to making the Observatory’s monitoring systems available to the public too.

Civic participation can play an important role in monitoring risks in government procurement projects that may lead to uncompetitive practices, wasteful spending and project delays. In Indonesia, members of the public can file official complaints about suspicious procurement practices. Of those, 70 cases were rejected.
