Author: Larry Berglund Major global events have been impacting supply chains for years: the shift from a fossil fuel energy supply to renewables; the digitalization of information; the electrification of transportation; the need for decarbonization to reduce emissions; eliminating plastics and waste; the pandemic; the circular economy; global warming; and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies.
For people who have lost interest in their jobs, a recent article in the Washington Post offers an alternative to quiet quitting. Quiet quitting, you might remember, is often used to describe in which people, feeling unengaged at work, opt to keep doing the job but not to overdo it. They settle for good enough, you might say. But here’s another idea: Instead of quitting on the job and hoping others don’t notice, find ways to make your work or at least your work-life more interesting.
Long wait times, multiple transfers to get to the “right” person, and unsatisfying responses are leaving constituents dissatisfied with the service experience provided to them by government agencies. This is of course, in stark contrast with how they’re used to being treated in the private sector. With an estimated 10 billion visits to government websites annually, a mere 12 percent of those visitors say that digital government services are meeting their needs.
Data loss is one of the public sector’s worst nightmares. Agencies handle personal information, so there is no government that can risk misplacing this data without potentially hurting constituent trust. The plot only thickens now that most agencies have hybrid workforces mixing on-site and remote employees. With no limit to the cybersecurity perimeters they must defend, how can agencies shield their data from today’s global threat landscape?
