This value increased by 30% between 2021 and 2022, years in which more than 58,000 contracts were assigned to SMEs, according to data from the electronic publicprocurementsystem (SECOP 2) analyzed by OCP. The platform aims to close the gap in access to public credit and promote economic growth in the country.
These buyers benefit from structured agreements by gaining access to pre-approved suppliers, which can streamline the procurement process and potentially lead to cost savings. In addition, these agreements can be made more valuable by encouraging innovation with flexible terms and mechanisms for regular reviews.
In 2022, OCP published an impact story about how Indonesia’s authorities have been working with civil society to curb corruption by improving timely oversight of the publicprocurementsystem, which spans over 600 decentralized government agencies.
To better understand the challenges small businesses face when bidding for public tenders, and complementary to its Lift impact accelerator project, the Open Contracting Partnership engaged in conversations with entrepreneurs, public officials, and civil society actors with a stake in improving the publicprocurementsystem.
